On 29 March 2022, the forum on Safeguarding the Rights of Arbitration Parties and the Release of the Book Questions on Commercial Arbitration and Mediation in China was held in Beijing, organised by the International Commercial and Arbitration Investment Research Centre of the University of International Business and Economics (also the Research Base of International Commercial and Investment Arbitration of the Fourth Civil Division, the Supreme People’s Court), China Academy of Arbitration Law and Beijing HUAMAO&GUIGU Law Firm. Dr. Yu Jianlong (Secretary General of CCPIT) delivered a presentation on the forum's theme, in which he elaborated on the protection of the parties' rights in arbitration from both procedural and substantive aspects. He pointed out the importance of balancing fairness and efficiency, handling the relationship between the arbitration institution and the arbitral tribunal and fully guaranteeing the tribunal's independence to ensure fairness and impartiality in the process of hearing cases. Dr Li Hu (Vice Chairman of CMAC) attended the forum and delivered a keynote speech. He said that the parties are the masters of the arbitration procedures and that strengthening the protection of their rights is a legitimate part of arbitration work. CMAC published ad hoc arbitration rules in March together with the China Maritime Law Association, aiming to promote the practice of ad hoc arbitration and enhance the protection of the parties' rights based on the their needs.
