On 22 February 2017, local time in London, the China Maritime Arbitration Commission (CMAC) delegation held a symposium for Chinese-funded enterprises at the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Representative Office in the UK. Representatives from more than 20 Chinese-funded enterprises/law firms from the business and legal circles participated in the meeting.

The symposium was hosted by SHAO Danni, the deputy general representative of the representative office in the UK. She first welcomed the arrival of the CMAC delegation and expressed appreciation for the delegation’s ability to provide introduction and consultation on arbitration legal services for Chinese-funded enterprises in London. Subsequently, Ms. CHEN Bo, the head of the delegation and vice president of CMAC gave a keynote speech on the characteristics and advantages of arbitration, the general situation and future development direction of CMAC, and the characteristics of the arbitration rules. Mr. ZHANG Xubo, a senior arbitrator of CMAC and senior partner of Renxiang Insurance Appraisal (Beijing) Co., Ltd., combined with the case on the UK charterparty and deeply analyzed the difference between CMAC and the UK arbitration. CUI Qiang, a partner of Commerce & Finance Law Firm, used his personal experience as an agent in Sino-British arbitration cases to introduce to the delegates the differences in maritime arbitration procedures between China and the UK, as well as the characteristics of rapid and efficient arbitration by CMAC and high certainty of the results of the award.

In the last part of the symposium, members of the CMAC delegation interacted with representatives of participating Chinese-funded units, discussing the negotiation and signing strategies of arbitration agreements that companies are concerned about, the prevention and control of legal risks of Chinese-funded companies, and the extraterritorial enforcement of arbitration awards, etc. Questions were consulted and discussed in-depth. The symposium ended successfully in a warm atmosphere.
