On 23 February 2017, local time in Greece, CHEN Bo, Vice President of the Court of Arbitration of China Maritime Arbitration Commission (CMAC), led a delegation of CMAC to visit the Greek Maritime Law Association. Mr. Gregory J. Timagenis, Chairman of the Greek Maritime Law Association, warmly received Vice President CHEN Bo and her entourage.

Dr. Timagenis extended a warm welcome to the delegation of CMAC and organized more than 20 lawyers from well-known local law firms to welcome the delegation to Greece. Vice President CHEN Bo first expressed her gratitude to the Greek Maritime Law Association for its hospitality, and briefed the guests on the history of CMAC, the characteristics of CMAC arbitration rules, and the situation of cases filed in recent years. The guests and lawyers at the meeting showed great interest in the introduction of Vice President CHEN Bo and actively asked questions. The questions mainly related to the status quo of China's maritime arbitration, the characteristics of the arbitration procedure of CMAC, the nationality of the parties involved in the cases, the application of law and rulings, the enforcement of awards etc. The members of the Chinese delegation also learned about the development of the Greek maritime arbitration, the characteristics of the rules, and the operational practices. At the end of the symposium, both parties agreed that: in the context of the current economic globalization and China’s “One Belt One Road” strategy, CMAC and the Greek Maritime Law Association should continue to broaden the areas of cooperation, improve the level of cooperation, and give full play to the advantages of arbitration, and in a fair and reasonable manner resolve maritime disputes, safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of the enterprises of the two countries, and promote the healthy development of the economy and trade of the two countries. Greek Maritime Law Association is an important partner of CMAC. Over the years, it has done a lot of fruitful work in promoting exchanges and cooperation between arbitration institutions. The two sides will continue to deepen their interaction and hope that there will be more room for cooperation in the future.
